Friday 26 August | Book Week Dress Up Day & Parade
Friday 9 September | Pupil Free Day
Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you for your wonderful support of our Book Fair. It was a huge success and will ensure we can purchase further resources for our library. Thanks to Erin Hardwicke and all the staff who assisted, it was wonderful to see happy faces. I did explain to some students that a “wish list” isn’t exactly a free expense account- wouldn’t that be lovely!
This Friday is our dress up as a book character day. Staff have been enjoying deciding what we will wear, and teachers have planned some great literature activities. If the weather is fine, parents are welcome to join us in the courtyard for morning greetings/awards and a short parade.
Father’s Day Drive Through
At St Michael’s we want to acknowledge all our wonderful Dads, Stepdads, and great men in our lives. We’d love to give our Dads the 3D treatment on Friday, 2 September from 8.20am. Drop off your child, collect your Donut and receive a Dad joke! We hope that all our Dads have a wonderful Father’s Day on Sunday, 4th September.
Sharing our learning
Come and join your child on Wednesday 21st September, Week 10, for a relaxed and positive sharing of learning. Between 3:15pm and 5:30pm, you are very welcome to drop in with your child who will have organised some items to show you. This is an opportunity to chat with your child and offer praise and support.
Student leadership at St Michael’s
It’s great to see our senior students leading some school events and initiatives such as nude food on Wednesdays and a talent quest for the end of this term.
Confirmation Preparation
We prayerfully support our students and families preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation at the end of this term. Special thanks to Fr. Luis, Meaghan Younger, Year 5/6 teachers and the Parish Team. This is a very special time and an opportunity for everyone to experience the grace of God through the power of the Holy Spirit.
40th Anniversary Celebrations
You will have seen some colourful banners in the car park, keep this date and time free to join us for our 40th Anniversary celebrations; Saturday 19 November from 11am-2pm.
It’s wonderful to see our suburbs and gardens beginning to blossom into Spring- may the sunshine fill you with warmth, hope and joy.
Many blessings,
Judy Egan

Religious Education News - Meaghan Younger
Religious Education
Religious Education & Religious Life of the School
In 5/6 students are investigating Jesus’ commandment of love and the corporal acts of mercy. This week they identified people in their community who act according to Jesus' new commandment of charity and described how these people 'go beyond existing laws and obligations'.
Religious Life of St Michael’s
Year 6 Retreat & Letters of Affirmation
All students in Year 6 will be taking part in a very special Retreat day on Thursday 1st September. An element of the day is reading and responding to letters of affirmation from a Parent or Sponsor. These letters need to be sent in to Ms Younger in an envelope addressed to the student for whom they are intended. If we could have those letters by the end of this week it will help with smooth preparation of our Retreat Day, thank you.
Year 6 students who are not preparing for Confirmation also need to pay the $5 on our school Qkr for the pizza lunch please. Confirmation candidates have paid for this in their registration fee for Confirmation.
Fathers’ Day WSPT
On Friday, 2nd September, we will celebrate the gift of our fathers with a WSPT. This is being prepared by 1/2 and will be shared digitally in school. We will be praying for all of our wonderful Dads and hoping they have a lovely day on the following Sunday.

Chief Minister’s Reading Competition – Prize Draw
This year more students than ever completed the challenge and we congratulate them for their efforts. On Friday we will have our prize draw to find our lucky 5 winners. Good luck to all those with a completed challenge form in the barrell.
Belconnen Region Athletics Competition
Congratulations to all the students who competed at the Belconnen Region Athletics Carnival last Thursday. It was a terrific day with great results and everyone enjoying the opportunity to participate and represent our school.
We wish Mahli (3/4L), Josiah (5/6Y), Kobe (5/6Y) and Lachlan (5/6H) all the very best for the ACT Championships on the 9th September. These 4 students will receive their ribbons at our morning assembly this Friday and parents are most welcome to join us.
Boorowa Update
We are excited to be able to enter teams in this year’s competition and thank the many parents who have volunteered to assist on the day. We will have 2 Year 5/6 touch football teams, 2 Year 3/4 touch football teams and a Year 5/6 netball team. If there are any students in Year 3/4 who would like to play netball, they are welcome to join the older age group if they wish. Unfortunately, we are not able to enter a team in the Year 2 netball due to lack of interest.
Information for coaches, managers and umpires will be sent home next week.
