Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you have survived the downpour last week, we still have very damp play areas.
This week as part of our staff prayer we have been reflecting on the faith and journey of Mary MacKillop Australia’s first saint.
One of my favourite quotes of Mary
“Believe in the whisperings of God to your own heart” Mary challenges us to take time to be still in our busy world and make space for God.

BUILDING AND RENOVATIONS
This week the CE team visited looking at the school downpipes. CE have committed to repairs to assist the downpipe situation as with heavy rain the downpipe system is not equipped to deal with the deluge.
40th ANNIVERSARY SAVE THE DATE
Saturday 19th November 12pm-2pm, so far we are having a whole school art competition, memorabilia, open school and more. If you have any school memorabilia or would like to assist the Community Council in preparations please email: maria.papasidero@cg.catholic.edu.au
We would love to hear from you.
There are many events coming up at school, so please read on and watch out for information on COMPASS and Facebook.
Reminder - Hats on
Most Australians receive the bulk of their vitamin D supply from exposing their skin to small amounts of ultraviolet radiation in sunlight.
Due to low levels of ultraviolet radiation in Canberra during the winter months, Cancer Council ACT does not generally recommend sun protection in June and July.
This may reduce the risk of vitamin D deficiency in the ACT region.
As part of sun protection from August to May, St Michael’s students are asked to wear hats during all outdoor activities. Hats are available for purchase at the Front Office for $12.
THANK YOU
Finally, special thanks to Trish Dalziel for her generous support in sorting out our second hand clothing-so greatly appreciated! If you are in need of uniform we have a good range of second hand items on sale for a gold coin donation. Please see the Front Office staff.
Thank you for your continued support, stay safe and well.
Many Blessings

Religious Education News - Meaghan Younger
Religious Education
RE in 3/4
In Years 3 & 4 students are learning about God’s Creation and our important role as Stewards of Creation. As they explore the key message from Genesis – that what God created was and still is essentially good – they have been joined in class by a very special visitor, Sticky. Can you find him in the photo?
What role do you play in caring for God’s Creation? What things can we improve on with our regard for our planet and all the creatures, including people, that God created?

Feast of St Mary MacKillop of the Cross
Thank you to Kindergarten for your prayerful leadership of our Whole School Prayer Time on Monday. It was a beautiful way to share the Feast Day of St Mary MacKillop of the Cross. Special thanks to Miss De Mattia and Miss Kapantais for their work in preparing the digital presentation for the whole school.
Feast of the Assumption of Mary
In August is always seems to be one Mary or another! This coming Monday, 15th August, is the Feast Day of the Assumption. As Catholics we celebrate Mary’s Assumption, body and soul, by Jesus to Heaven. This differs from Jesus’ Ascension in a key detail. Jesus Ascended to Heaven himself, as he is one with God. Jesus assumed Mary into Heaven as he did not want to see the body of his mother, one which bore the Son of God, decay as all bodies do after death.
Staff and students in 3/4 are already very busy preparing to lead the St Michael’s School community in prayer next Monday morning. Again this will be delivered digitally to accommodate current COVIDSAFE practices.

Author Visit
We are excited to welcome Anna Battese to our school on Tuesday, 16th August. Anna will speak to our K-2 classes about her new books and what she loves about being a writer. If you would like to purchase either of Anna’s books please see the attached order form. Anna will personalise and sign the copies on the day of her visit.
Book Fair – Next Week!
We will host our annual book fair next week and the students are very excited!
The books will be on display in the library from Monday. On Tuesday, all students will visit the book fair and make a ‘Wish List’ of books they like. In addition to the books available to purchase, there will also be stationery items ranging from $1-$5 and posters. A generous percentage from the sales comes to the school as rewards and we use this money to purchase additional books for our own library. We are able to have families visit the fair outside of school hours. We have both before school and after school opening times, please see below for details.
We look forward to seeing you at the fair!!
Book Fair Times

ACT School Sport Trials
Please keep an eye on the ACT School Sport website for a number of trials coming up.
Hockey Clinics
All classes have been enjoying the hockey clinics and we confirmed this week that we will be able to extend the program for an additional 2 weeks. The more hockey the better!!
Boorowa Touch and Netball Carnival – Please ensure you have submitted your Compass for by today.
Thank you to the parents who have kindly volunteered to assist on the day. We will finalise teams this week and confirm which teams we are able to enter in the carnival this year.
We are proceeding with our plans to again enter teams in this year’s Boorowa touch and netball carnival. It is a fantastic day that sees thousands of students from country and city schools both government and public come to support the town of Boorowa and the wider community. Today, interested students met with Mrs Hardwicke to find out a little more about the day. If you would like your child to participate please return the permission note via Compass. We will enter teams based on the responses we receive via Compass. Once we have confirmed our numbers we will send teams lists home. Please note that on some occasions we are unable to enter teams due to not having a sufficient number of players. It is also a requirement of the organisers that each team is able to provide a coach, umpire/referee and manager. We are dependent on parent volunteers for these roles, so if you are able to help please let us know by answering the questions on the Compass form. We greatly appreciate your support, but it is even more greatly appreciated by our students.
