Dear Parents and Carers,
It was lovely welcoming parents for our Harmony Awards last Friday. We will continue to distribute awards each Friday and parents are most welcome to attend, if the weather is inclement, we will gather in the hall. Please keep an eye out for information about Whole School Prayer Times (WSPT) as your child’s class may be involved in presenting these over the coming weeks.
Assessment and Reporting
There have been many changes to the reporting system over the past 2 years with the CE decision to implement the COMPASS platform. At St Michael’s we have introduced systems and worked with families to ensure we keep up to date with compliance and other schools in the area. We value the time and opportunity to meet with you and have an honest and fruitful discussion around where your child is at and how we can work together to achieve growth and improvement. This Semester reports will be issued to parents via the COMPASS parent portal in Week 10 of this term, individual subjects will be graded and there will be no comments.
To ensure parents feel fully informed teachers will be available for interviews in Week 9. These interviews provide an opportunity to focus on your child’s strengths and then to look at areas of challenge. It is crucial to see these challenges in the lens of a growth mindset. https://www.renaissance.com/edword/growth-mindset/
We need to teach our children the language of growth, they might say, “I can’t do fractions” we might say “you haven’t learnt them yet, but with a little more practice you will get there” and there it is, one of our St Michael’s keys to learning- PERSEVERANCE.
In the coming weeks we will be inviting students, teachers, and parents to provide feedback on their experience of our school using an online survey. The surveys are an important part of our whole school evaluation and planning process.
We would like to invite you to complete the Tell Them From Me (TTFM) Partners in Learning survey. As we value the role of parents and carers within our school community, we would greatly appreciate your feedback. The information you provide will be used to maintain our commitment to working together in partnership to further improve student learning and wellbeing. The survey is anonymous, we will notify you on COMPASS when the survey goes live and provide the links.
Finally, well done to our Year 3 and Year 5 students who completed NAPLAN testing this week. Thank you to Mr. Webb and our staff helpers, what a great bunch!
Good health and safe travels this week,
Many blessings

Active Streets for Schools Program
Our school is participating in the Active Streets for Schools program.
Active Streets delivers infrastructure improvements around schools to make it safer and easier to ride, walk, scooter or skate to and from school.
To support students who may be beginning to travel independently, we will distribute an Active Streets resource pack to students in years 4-6. The pack will include a map highlighting routes to our school.
Parents are encouraged to talk to their children about how they can use these resources to support walking or riding to school. Starting small is often a good approach, so try using part way points a short distance from the school and accompany students to teach them safe habits.
The Active Streets program helps children to develop independence, while providing health and safety benefits for the school community, with increased physical activity and fewer cars on the road.
Congratulations to the following students who achieved a Harmony Award in Week 4. Awards will be handed out to students during the day on Friday.
Well done!!

Religious Education in the School
This term so far within Religious Education our 3/4 classes have been exploring the choices that we make. Unpacking the 10 commandments with a focus on Jesus’ commandment of ‘Love one another, as I have loved you’ In 5/6 our classes are researching and discussing the gifts and the fruits of the Holy Spirit.
We have some wonderful Whole School Prayer Times planned over the next few weeks. They will be held in St Michael’s Church at 9am. All are warmly invited.
Friday 27th May - Mary Help of Christian’s
Friday 2nd June - Reconciliation Week
Thursday 23rd June - St Vincent de Paul
Religious Life of the School
Sunday's Gospel- Is love the first word your family members use to describe their interactions? Love is difficult. Jesus' sacrifice for us is an example of this. Yet because of love, the glory of God is fully revealed in Jesus. God's glory is revealed in us when we act as the Body of Christ, as individuals and as a community. In the love we have for one another—difficult, challenging, sacrificial love—we find Jesus.
Choose one or two occasions when your family was together during the week. Describe the family's interactions from an outsider's perspective. When is it less difficult to show love to family members? When is it more difficult? When love is difficult, what do we do?
Jesus didn't just tell us to love one another. He showed us how to love one another. In what ways did Jesus show us how to love? (in his acts of healing and forgiving; at the Last Supper as he washed his disciples' feet; in the gift of the Eucharist; through his death on the Cross).
