Term 2 School Fee Statements
Please note that Term 2 School Fee Statements will be sent by email to your home email address. Please contact the school if your home email address has changed.
Recording of Student Absences
A notification went home via Compass reminding parents/carers to ensure the school is provided notes for absences. It is a legal requirement for schools to ensure they have documentation around student absences, and we need your help. Please follow the instructions on the Parent Portal to send an absent note or email the front office and let us know.

We will be sending reminders each Thursday to any families missing notes, this is a generated email from compass, please email or phone the front office if you have any concerns.
Kind Regards
Judy Egan
Principal
Dear Parents and Carers,
We are excited to begin to get back to some normality within school with some relaxing of COVID restrictions. Our Year 5/6 students were so thrilled to spend time with their buddies last week and we were also able to go ahead with our cross-country carnival. This term we have undertaken to provide Dance instruction via the Footsteps Dance Company for all classes. The children thoroughly enjoyed their first session with the dance instructor on Monday. All students will also be able to learn some tennis skills as part of our Health Program and we are now able to schedule awards presentations and assemblies. We are also finalising details for our 5/6 students to participate in a CAMP experience in Term 4, as health regulations meant they missed out on our Term 1 booking for Birrigai.
Catalyst Initiatives
Brooke Wardana is an experienced educator who leads high impact instruction in two Perth primary schools and currently supports teachers in WA and ACT to take up high impact literacy instruction. It was wonderful to welcome back Brooke to St Michael’s last Friday as she shared her dynamic teaching skills and observed and gave feedback to our wonderful teachers. We are committed to the CE bold goals and these are displayed in every classroom;
- Every child is a competent reader
- High Impact Teaching Practice is visible in every classroom
Enrolment Period
This is the time of year families need to confirm enrolment for places in Catholic schools in 2023. If your child is in Year 6 you will need to enrol them in your choice of schooling for next year. A reminder that families with siblings of school age also need to complete enrolment paperwork in order to secure a placement in Kindergarten for 2023. We love hearing great things about St Michael’s from our community and we encourage our families to spread the news that we are open for enrolments for 2023. It was lovely to catch up with families at our recent Open day.
REC Coordinators and Mother’s Day Whole School Prayer Time
Congratulations to Jess Lewis and Laura Frogley who will be sharing the Religious Education Coordinator Role while Meaghan Younger is on leave, thank you to Jess and Laura for organising a special prayer time this Friday 6 May at 9am in the Church. We are thrilled to be able to welcome back our wonderful St Michael’s Mums and this Sunday we think with love of all Mother’s on earth and in heaven, all Mother’s at heart and special women in our lives.
May you all be truly blessed,
Judy Egan

Family Engagement Makes a Difference
Coinciding with National Families week - Australia’s annual celebration of the importance of families, The Council of Catholic School Parents Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn (CSPACG) in collaboration with Catholic Education are hosting an online family event in Term 2.
This event is an opportunity for families to learn more about the Catholic School Parent Council and the ways it provides advocacy, leadership, representation, and support for families in our Archdiocese. There will also be an opportunity to discover some practical ways for families to engage in their child’s learning.
Registration details are on the flier attached.

Religious Education in the School
We have both had a wonderful week in the role of REC and are looking forward to the weeks ahead.
This coming term staff are reviewing our Curriculum and ensuring that our Religious Education programs and lessons demonstrate High Impact Teaching Practices in line with our ongoing journey with Catalyst. We are also working to align our scope and sequence with new units being developed by staff.
Sunday’s Gospel
Jesus' attentiveness to food and mealtimes raises the possibility that our meal gatherings can be sacred times. In families, the domestic church, our meals together are everyday opportunities to gather and recall Jesus' presence with us. As in the Eucharist, we bring the gifts that God has given us, which have been prepared especially for our Mass, and at our family meals we share gifts that God has given to us and that we have worked together to prepare. This includes the food on the table and also the people who gather around the table. We ask God to bless these gifts and to be present among us in all of our interactions.
Project Compassion
A huge thank you to everyone who raised money for Caritas through donations in the Project Compassion boxes. For anyone who has not returned these yet could you please do so promptly so we can finalise payment to Caritas. All moneys are to be returned to the Front Office or directly to the church on weekends.
Mother’s Day
This coming Sunday is Mother’s Day. To celebrate we will gather in the Church on Friday morning at 8:50 for Whole School Prayer. 3/4 will lead us in our celebration. All are welcome.
First Communion
A reminder that all candidates and their families need to be at one of the Parish Masses this weekend (if you did not attend last weekend) to make their commitment to prepare for First Communion. Please bring your commitment cards with you. Preparation booklets are being sent home as registration information is provided from the Parish Office. Please contact Sue Collins at the Parish Office if you have any questions about First Communion.

Cross Country
Last Thursday we held our school cross country carnival and while the weather wasn’t kind to us the students loved competing in the rain! We thank the many volunteers who assisted as course marshals to ensure the students were supervised around the course. We can not run our carnivals without your generous support. On behalf of the staff, students and parent community - THANK YOU!
Congratulation to the Green Crocodiles who are our Cross Country Champions for 2022.
Presentation of Cross Country Ribbons and Trophy
On Friday 6th May we will present the ribbons and trophy from our carnival. We warmly invite parents to join us at the conclusion of Mother's Day WSPT in the Church.
Belconnen Region Cross Country Carnival
The Belconnen Region Cross Country Carnival will be held on Thursday 26th May at Stromlo Park. We congratulate the 50 students who will represent our school at this carnival and wish them all the best for their race.
The permission note for this event was uploaded on Compass today. It has replaced the paper version of the note that has been sent home in previous years. Please sign the permission note via Compass. If you need any assistance with this please get in touch and we will happily trouble troubleshoot any issues.
Tennis Clinics
Our tennis clinics are off to a flying start and we look forward to the next 3 weeks of lessons with the coaches from Get Set Tennis. Students are welcome to bring a racquet from home on the day of their lessons.
St Michael’s Athletics Carnival

If you are able to volunteer we would love to hear from you?
National Simultaneous Storytime
On Wednesday the 25th May we will take part in National Simultaneous Storytime. This event sees more than 1 million people participate and is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). We look forward to finding out what this year’s book will be!
Author Krys Saclier will visit St Michael’s Primary School on Friday 6 May, to share her creative writing journey with Year 5 and 6. She will also provide a full set of her books to the library thanks to the generosity of the Bryan Family.
