Dear Parents/Carers,
I hope the first week has gone well for you and routines are beginning to be established. I heard from one Mum that her kids were unbelievably tired but incredibly happy! Thank you for the wonderful way you have supported the return to school.
At the beginning of each year, I am obliged to let you know that school supervision begins daily at 8:20am, children enter through the glass sliding doors. Children arriving before this time are not supervised and are therefore in an unsafe situation. We do offer before and after school care if you are in this position. The carline drop off has teacher supervision from 8:30am. If students arrive after 8:50am the sliding doors are locked, and we ask that students enter through the Front Office so Lisa can sign them in.
The school daily timetable is below if you need to schedule appointments.
Staff on duty at 8:20am
School begins at 8:50am
8.50-11.00 first session,
10.00am fruit break
11.00-11.10 eating time
11.10-11.40 recess play
11.40- 1.10 middle session
1.10-1.20 eating time
1.20-1.50 lunch play
1.50-2.50 last session
2.50 pack up bell
2.55 home bell
School Uniform
There have been some issues with school uniform supplies, let us know if you are having any difficulties sourcing uniforms. We have a well-stocked second-hand uniform shop with many items. St Michael’s students wear their uniform with pride, and we value our uniform as an important part of our school identity and ethos. A link is available below if you are unsure of requirements.
A St Michael's blue school bag is also part of our school uniform and we have plenty of 2nd hand bags at the Office if you would like to pick one up for a gold coin donation.

Year 6 Leaders
Congratulations to our Year 6 leaders who received their leadership shirts and badges last week. While we were not able to have families present, it was a special time, and our students are thrilled to be finally at the top end of the school! The students are part of leadership teams so that everyone is tasked with responsibility around the school, ensuring it is a place of harmony where all students particularly the younger students feel welcomed and nurtured.
Awards/Birthdays
At St Michael’s we acknowledge students’ participation, effort and learning via weekly Harmony Awards. These are printed in the newsletter and students bring home a certificate. At the end of each term teachers also choose 2 students for Rainbow Awards. These children will receive a special gift pack as a way of recognising their outstanding efforts in the term. Birthdays are a special time, and we also acknowledge these publicly and with a certificate. Sadly, we are currently unable to hold assemblies with families present.
Fees
Fee statements were sent out last week to families. Thank you for supporting us by promptly paying your fees or putting in place direct debit options. If you experience any issues regarding fees, we are happy to set up an appointment. We rely on fee collection to maintain our school budgets and ensure your child receives a quality education in a beautiful setting.
Road works/Pick Up/wet weather
Thank you for your patience as ACT Government continue to improve the footpaths and pavements for safety and access at the front of the school. This work was scheduled for school holidays but unfortunately was not able to be completed in this timeframe. The pickup drive through is opened from 2:50pm daily, if it is raining at pick up time all families are welcome to use the drive through as we wouldn’t be asking students to wait on the oval.
Thank you for your continued support,
Many blessings for the coming week
Judy Egan
Principal
As several of the students at our school have a life threatening allergy to nuts and related products we have adopted a NUT FREE policy.
Our school does not sell any nut products and we ask you to support our efforts by ensuring that your child does not bring peanuts, peanut butter, nutella or other nut related products to school in their lunch boxes. This will require you to take note of the content of items such as muesli bars etc.
We appreciate your support in ensuring the health and safety of all our students.
Faithful in Prayer
Ways to pray…
Prayer in 3/4
In 3/4 this past week students have been looking closely at our School Prayer and considering what the words really mean in action in our every day. Below is a small sample of some of their work on this.
They have also investigated the Ring Prayer – perhaps ask them how to pray this with you?
Sacraments 2022
If you wish your child to receive the sacraments of First Communion (Year 4), Confirmation (Year 6) or First Reconciliation (Year 3) in our parish (Our Lady of Perpetual Help), please note there is a general Information Evening on Thursday 17th February from 6:00pm in the St Monica’s Church.
Sacramental Program 2022
If you have a child in Years 3, 4, or 6 in 2022, this will be a Sacramental year.
This also applies if your child is in Year 5 and he/she has previously missed the Sacraments of Reconciliation and/or First Eucharist.
A Parish Sacramental Program Information Evening will be held on Thursday 17 February 2022 at 6pm in St Monica’s Church for the families of students in years 3-6 in 2022. You are very welcome to attend the information evening where all the relevant information will be available.
First Eucharist will be celebrated in Term 2, 2022.

St Michael's Swimming Carnival and Regional Swimming Carnival
Unfortunately, we were notified during the holidays that Catholic Education have cancelled school swimming carnivals for 2022. Additionally, we have been notified by School Sport ACT that the regional swimming carnivals have been cancelled. At this stage, ACT Championships will proceed in early Term 2. The nomination for ACT will be a different process to previous years, with students needing to nominate themselves in order to participate. Nomination will require an official time to be provided.
Tennis Clinics
We had planned to offer tennis clinics this term, but due to the current restrictions we will postpone them to later in the year.
Please be reminded that students are not permitted to bring their own sports balls to school to use during recess and lunch play. Handballs are permitted. We have a wide variety of sports equipment available for the students to use during break times. We thank you for your support as it creates a more harmonious play time for all our students.
Welcome to the Library for 2022!
Student Borrowing
Library lessons for each class will be on either Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. On library days students can return books and borrow new ones for the week. If you wish to return books at other times, they can be placed in the returns slot on the front of the library desk. I look forward to working with all the students to develop their love of reading and literature throughout 2022!

SORA Library App
If you haven’t already downloaded the SORA App, we encourage you to do so. It allows students to borrow ebooks and audiobooks from our school's digital library collection. When in the App, it will ask for the school name, please select 'ACEN Member Collection' (this is for various CE schools). If your child logs in from home, student login details are required. Your child's login details are as per the student login used at school. If your child has forgotten their login details please see their classroom teacher.
Looking forward to an exciting year in the library.

Hello Lovely St Michael’s Families
On Friday the 25th of Feb, I am beginning a 3-day ride to Charlotte’s Pass (above Perisher) and back, to help raise money for Hartley Lifecare. I am fortunate enough to be riding with three of my brothers and riding with a team from the Department of Health. I have completed this ride once before, 2 years ago. It is great fun, but it is certainly a challenge. The ride is about 550km over the three days and requires a lot of training and preparation.
What is Hartley Lifecare?
Established in 1962, Hartley Lifecare (Hartley) is a Canberra-based not-for-profit organisation providing supported accommodation for people with disability, their families, and carers. Originally established to provide a learning facility and therapy support service for children and adults, Hartley has grown extensively to support clients in over 30 homes across the ACT.
How do I donate?
The following link will allow you donate to my effort. It is a great cause, and all the support is greatly appreciated.
