Dear Parents/Carers,
At last week’s assembly I asked the children if they knew about something special that was going to be happening soon. I was hoping for the answer of the Olympics so that I could generate some enthusiasm and excitement. To my surprise and delight, when I asked the question, one of the younger students replied- ‘Christmas!’
Moments like these remind me why I became a teacher. Children are our hope, our joy and the greatest gift for our world. Their innocence, positive outlook and willingness to trust is a lesson to us all. Plus, truthfully it is only 5 months till Christmas!
Many Blessings and keep on the nice list!

COMPASS Update
There is a pay option on COMPASS which we are currently working with CE to set up. We ask that you do not use the payment section until we have it sorted.
Please assist us by ensuring you log in to ensure we have reasons for absences updated, we still have quite a few unexplained absences in the system.
Permission notes have gone out on Compass for the K-2 Zoo Excursion and Year 5/6 Matilda performance at Merici. Please remember to check Compass and click on the Event Consent to confirm your child's attendance at these events. This has replaced the paper permission notes going home.
Thank you for working with us as we implement the new systems.

All families are warmly invited to join us in the St Michael’s Church at the beginning of the school day.

Registrations will close by 9 August and no further registrations will be accepted after the closing date.
Commitment Masses – the last two weekends will be:

Candidates and parents must attend one of the weekend Masses at either St Monica’s Church (5pm Saturday or 10am Sunday) or St Michael’s Church (8am or 5.30pm Sunday) to make their commitment for the Sacrament.
There will be no additional commitment Masses beyond these dates.

Indigenous Literacy Foundation
This year during Book Week (Term 3, Week 7) we will hold another Great Book Swap. After the wonderful support the event received last year we would like to show our support to the Indigenous Literacy foundation (ILF) again. The Giant Book Swap will take place on Tuesday 24th August. In order for the event to be a success we are asking each student to donate a pre-loved book, that is in good condition, and can be enjoyed by someone else. On the day of the book swap students will then be able to choose a new book to take home for a gold coin donation. The money we raise is used by the ILF to purchase books that are then sent to regional and remote Indigenous communities.
We still need quite a few more books for our book swap to go ahead. Please leave any book donations in the library or with Lisa at the Front Office by Friday 20th August. On behalf of the ILF we thank you for your support of this important intiative.

SCHOOL SPORT ACT TRIALS – Please keep an eye on the School Sport ACT website https://schoolsportact.org.au/ for upcoming ACT trials. The process for registering can be found below. If you need any assistance registering your child please feel free to ask for assistance.
How to register your child with School Sport ACT
School Sport ACT now collects all registration information online – this is to prevent the movement to and fro of a paper note and have all information readily available to officials prior to the trial. As this process incurs a fee for data storage, system maintenance and admin, a small $5 fee payment via credit card will be required.
- Go to the School Sport ACT website – https://schoolsportact.org.au/
- Click Register (top right corner of homepage) for an Account – enter parent details and password
- A confirmation email will be sent to your chosen email that will contain a link that you must click on to verify the email account.
- Click Log In (top right hand corner of home page) enter password then click on top tab My Profile
- You will see a ‘dashboard’ of your information, click green box to Add Student – enter student and medical details and save.
- Go to the Sports Tab – choose your specific sport, click on Trial Information box then click on the Register to Trial link.
- Select your child’s name from the dropdown box and then enter the optional fields for Playing History, Preferred Position (if applicable) and Representative Experience. If you are already in the system, ensure your child’s school is up to date in your profile – have they moved onto High School?
Please contact me via email if you have any questions, feedback or are able to offer your assistance at any of our sporting events throughout the year.
Looking forward to another big year of sporting participation,
Erin Hardwicke
