Dear Parents and Carers,
Teachers know that visual timetables are a must for classrooms. At the beginning of the day teachers share the visual timetable with the scheduled events for the day, including any expectations or specific instructions. Identifying the plan for the day is known to reduce confusion and anxiety and support student independence and wellbeing.
It’s worth considering a family planner in a shared space in your household. These can be as simple or detailed as you like. If you use a whiteboard you can mark on the grid the days of the week in texta- it won’t rub off. Adding the days and calendar dates is a great way to teach children about the months of the year and the days of the week. You can add sports uniform days, library days, family events etc. It’s a simple way to start a conversation and for everyone to be on track for the week.
You may also like to have a calendar on display with the current months and any family members birthdays marked. Children can learn the names of months, count the days till their birthday, work out how many days in a year, work out when special events or holidays happen. Calendars and timetables help everyone and are a great way to reduce anxiety.
